Pay-television broadcaster Digi Sport has acquired rights to Italy’s Serie A for the next three seasons, from 2018-19 to 2020-21, after completing a deal with international rights-holder IMG.
In May, pay-television broadcaster TV2 announced it would be airing Serie A in Hungary on its Spíler TV channel, but the deal was never officially signed off.
In July when TV2 released its sports portfolio for the upcoming season, Serie A wasn’t included. TV2 has been very aggressive in its pursuit of sports rights since its takeover by Hungarian-American film producer Andrew Vajna in January 2016.
After a few weeks of uncertainty as to who was going to broadcast the league in Hungary, a signed agreement with Digi was secured before the first match-week. Digi held Serie A rights in the previous three-season cycle, from 2015-16 to 2017-18.
