Fina, the global governing body of aquatic sports, has revealed this year’s edition of its World Championships attracted a record television audience.
An aggregated global television viewership of over 6.84 billion tuned in to coverage of the event, which took place from July 24 to August 9 in Kazan, Russia.
The figures distributed by media research company Kantar Media represent an increase of 2.3 billion on the audience of 4.5 billion that tuned in during the last edition of the World Championships, which were held in Barcelona, Spain in 2013.
Fina also said that there was a total of 5,728 hours of dedicated coverage for the event this year, compared to 5,156 in 2013.
The cumulative audience is based on six platforms: live audience, delayed, repeat, highlights, news and sports magazine content.
