Hungarian public-service broadcaster MTV has said it will launch a new sports channel next year.
MTV said the new channel, M4 Sport, does not intend to compete with Hungarian commercial broadcasters for rights such as European and US sports leagues.
Instead, it will seek to acquire rights to events in the 16 sports that receive the most backing from Hungarian authorities, as well as international events such as Olympic Games and world and European championships.
MTV said M4 Sport will seek to commence broadcasting in the summer of 2015, adding that its formation will not result in an additional burden for Hungarian taxpayers.
