The International Olympic Committee has signed up as the first client of Playmaker Media, a new video streaming technology support service that has been launched by the NBC Sports Digital division of US media group NBCUniversal.
Playmaker will provide live streaming video support for the IOC’s Olympic Channel, a global digital initiative that is expected to launch later this year.
At launch, Playmaker will team up with technology companies such as Adobe, Akamai, Microsoft, iStreamPlanet and Comcast Wholesale.
NBC Sports Digital, which is operated by NBC Sports Group, was the first company to stream an Olympic event back at the Torino winter Games in 2006, an NFL American football game in 2008 and a Super Bowl in 2012.
