Cable-television broadcast operator Mediacom has agreed a carriage deal with the Iowa State University’s athletics department for its dedicated sports channel Cyclones.tv.
The agreement will run for five years, from 2012-13 to 2016-17.
The channel, which is produced by the university, launched online at the start of the 2012-13 academic year.
The channel on Mediacom will show one American football game per year, between five and 10 men’s basketball games plus women’s basketball, volleyball, wrestling, football, gymnastics and softball events. Mediacom will also carry a series of the university’s sports magazine programmes and archive footage.
“This agreement allows our athletics program to become only the third institution nationally [after the University of Texas and Brigham Young University] with a fully dedicated channel for its sports teams,” Iowa State athletics director Jamie Pollard said.
“The partnership with Mediacom is a game-changer for our athletics program because we will be able to provide the most comprehensive coverage Cyclone sports teams have ever received. The deal improves our ability to reach fans and recruits throughout the mid-west, clearly strengthens the Iowa State Athletics brand and reinforces our strategic decision to launch Cyclones.tv. Mediacom’s interest confirms that we are producing excellent content on Cyclones.tv, which is in great demand.”
