The Lagardère Sports agency has teamed up with German agency arena11, which represents Sadio Mané, for the worldwide distribution of a documentary on the Liverpool and Senegal footballer.
The 72-minute documentary, entitled ‘Made in Senegal’, tells the story of Mané’s rise to become one of the world’s leading players. It has been directed and produced by Vertical Social Club.
Throughout Europe, Made in Senegal will be broadcast exclusively, and free of charge, on VOD platform Rakuten TV.
French pay-television broadcaster Canal Plus has acquired exclusive rights for French-speaking African countries, including Senegal. Pay-television broadcaster SuperSport holds non-exclusive rights in sub-Saharan Africa.
Lagardère Sports and arena11 will also broadcast Made in Senegal on a pay-per-view basis in all regions without an exclusive broadcast partner. The documentary can be purchased via www.made-in-senegal.com from $1 (€0.92), with the price depending on the region. Mané will donate all proceeds to charity organisations.
The programme uses a mixture of documentary scenes, interviews, clips from Mané’s day-to-day Premier League routine, archive footage of Liverpool’s 2018-19 Uefa Champions League season, the 2019 African Cup of Nations and animation.
The move to distribute the documentary comes with agencies hit by the postponement or cancellation of sports events to which they sell the live rights amidst the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
