Mediapro, the production and rights agency group, has reached a short-form content distribution deal with Wave, the sports social media content company, covering leading Liga MX football clubs and WBSC baseball and softball competitions.
The deal does not include any live elements but gives Wave unlimited access to archive content and highlights to create short-form video content for social media distribution.
Mediapro’s US president Irantzu Diez-Gamboa said: “The agreement is part of the group’s ongoing initiative to explore new opportunities for brand exposure and revenue-creation for the properties it represents.”
Rights spanning the 2019-24 cycle for the WBSC Baseball World Cups and WBSC Softball World Cups, along with the WBSC Premiere 12, are included in the deal. Mediapro struck an exclusive deal in the middle of 2019 for broadcast rights across the Americas to WBSC events. That agreement was initially to run until 2022.
Liga MX clubs sell their media rights on an individual basis with no centralised rights structure in place for Mexican football’s top tier.
