The Badminton Asia Confederation has said its new distribution partnership with the MP & Silva agency resulted in an 80 per cent year-on-year increase in the number of broadcast platforms covering its showpiece Badminton Asia Championships event.
The 2014 tournament was held from April 22-27 in Gimcheon, Korea and secured the highest number of broadcast deals in its history.
The event was transmitted in 14 major badminton markets and broadcast on major pay-television broadcasters in Korea (SBS), China (PPTV, Tencent, GuangdongTV, Guangzhou TV), Malaysia (Astro), Thailand (TrueVisions), Indonesia (beIN Sports), India (Ten Sports), Singapore (SingTel), Hong Kong (beIN Sports), Vietnam (SCTV), Taiwan (SportCast), Laos (TrueVisions), Cambodia (TrueVisions), Myanmar (Skynet) and the Philippines (Solar Entertainment, beIN Sports).
MP & Silva’s joint chief executive, Peter Hutton, said: “We are very encouraged by how quickly we’ve managed to grow the event’s TV audience in Asia through our close ties with regional broadcast partners, and we strongly believe we can continue to build on this in new and emerging badminton markets.”
MP & Silva in February secured an exclusive three-year worldwide distribution deal, running from 2014 to 2016, for BAC’s events.
