MTG adds Wimbledon rights alongside retained golf offering

Modern Times Group, the multi-territory commercial and pay-television broadcaster, has acquired the exclusive live rights for the Wimbledon tennis championships in Denmark and retained a host of high-profile golf properties in the Nordic and Baltic regions.

MTG will show Wimbledon through 2018 and has retained its exclusive rights to golf’s European Tour, the Ryder Cup, World Golf Championship events, the Ladies Professional Golf Association, the Open Championship and US PGA Championship.

The golf properties are all retained until the end of 2018 by MTG, which secured the deals through the IMG Nordic agency.

MTG’s specialist Viasat Golf channel and its online streaming service Viaplay will provide subscribers with 1,200 live hours of golf per-year.

Jørgen Madsen Lindemann, MTG president and chief executive, said: “I am delighted to announce the extension of the exclusive rights to show these key golf tournaments. We have saved our dedicated golf fans from the risk of boredom and we have once again delivered on our promise of offering the very best sports content to our subscribers.”
