Modern Times Group, the multi-territory commercial and pay-television broadcaster, has acquired exclusive rights in Sweden, Norway and Denmark, for the men’s and women’s European Handball Championships in 2016 and 2018.
The rights were acquired from the Infront Sports & Media agency, the European Handball Federation’s media and marketing partner.
The deal, which was first reported by TV Sports Markets last month (TV Sports Markets 16:9), covers rights across free-to-air and pay-television, internet and mobile.
Under the agreement, MTG will broadcast all matches involving the Scandinavian nations, plus the semi-finals and finals on its free-to-air channels in the region.
Rights to the qualifying games for the 2014, 2016 and 2018 European Handball Championships were included in the package.
