NBCUniversal draws lowest-ever Summer Olympic audience for Tokyo 2020

NBCUniversal attracted its lowest-ever domestic audience for the Summer Olympics since first covering the global showpiece event in 1988, with the Tokyo Games drawing an average of 15.5 million primetime TV viewers over its 17-day run in the United States.

Tokyo 2020 marked a 42 per cent decline from the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in 2016, which averaged 26.7 million viewers, and attracted less than half that of London 2012, which drew an average of 31.1 million.
