Polish pay-television operator Polsat has acquired rights for national football team qualifying matches, including those featuring the Poland team, for the Uefa Euro 2016 and Fifa 2018 World Cup tournaments, as well as rights for the finals of Euro 2016 in France.
The deal will run for four years, from 2014-15 to 2017-18, and covers about 600 matches, including 51 during the Euro 2016 finals.
According to the Wekzlo.com news website, Polsat agreed to pay a total of €35m ($48m) for the rights.
Most of the games will be shown on pay-television channel Polsat Sport, but Polsat will provide free-to-air coverage of Poland national team matches. It has not been confirmed yet whether Polsat will sublicense rights for Poland national team games to a free-to-air broadcaster or will provide the coverage on one of its own digital-terrestrial-television channels.
The deal, which includes online and mobile rights, was agreed with the CAA Eleven agency, acting on behalf of football’s European governing body Uefa.
