UK pay-television broadcaster Premier Sports has acquired rights for the European Handball Federation Champions League in a deal with the continental governing body’s marketing division, EHF Marketing.
The length of the deal has not been disclosed, but it will run until at least the end of the 2012-13 season.
Premier Sports will show one ‘match of the week’ live or on a delayed basis per round of the tournament, as well as the weekly magazine programme Rewind every Monday evening. All of the coverage will be accompanied by English commentary.
“It is great to be able to showcase further a sport that really caught the imagination of UK fans during the summer Olympics,” Premier Sports operations director Richard Webb said.
EHF Marketing managing director Peter Vargo added: “After the successful presentation of handball at the London 2012 Olympic Games we would like to establish the sport on UK television schedules. This will be a chance to promote the top product of European club handball and we believe that we can gain a solid foothold for the sport in the UK.”
