Hong Kong commercial broadcaster TVB has agreed a late rights deal for this year’s winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
TVB signed the deal with the International Olympic Committee ahead of the start of the Games on February 9.
The South China Morning Post newspaper reported that TVB will provide more than 1,000 hours of coverage of the Games, which run until February 25.
Hong Kong will have one representative at Pyeongchang 2018 in the shape of alpine skier Arabella Ng.
A source with knowledge of the agreement between TVB and the IOC told the Morning Post: “We are still working out details of how the Games will be broadcast in Hong Kong, but for sure fans will be able to watch Ng.”
The source said that coverage would be showcased via TVB’s myTV Super OTT service.
The source added: “(Broadcasting on) the Jade Channel will be difficult because it’s not easy to change (scheduled) programmes for the Games. We will probably have highlights of the day and cover important events live through other channels.”
