The price of advertising during German commercial broadcaster RTL’s coverage of Formula One motor-racing in 2012 has increased by 2.5 per cent in comparison with 2011.
The final two grands prix of the season in the United States and Brazil, which will be broadcast during primetime in Germany on November 18 and 25, respectively, as well as the famous Monaco grand prix on May 27, offer the most expensive advertising spots.
A split-screen advert will cost €91,800 ($117,000) for the US, Brazil and Monaco races, while the same advert will cost between €63,900 and €80,400 during broadcasts of European races.
“Formula One has an average of six million viewers, is the most powerful regular sporting event on German television and is able to retain 85 per cent of the audience during commercial breaks,” said Matthias Dang, vice-president at IP Deutschland, RTL’s advertising sales house. “Owing to this good performance, we have increased the classic spot prices for the coming season by a moderate 2.5 per cent.”
In May 2011, RTL signed a new rights deal for Formula One in Germany, covering four years from 2012 to 2015.
