South African public-service broadcaster the SABC has acquired rights in the country for the 2014 winter Olympic Games in Sochi and the 2016 summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The SABC has secured exclusive broadcast rights on free-to-air television and radio as well as non-exclusive internet and mobile rights.
The deal, announced just hours before the opening ceremony of the Sochi Games today (Friday), was agreed directly with the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
The SABC also had rights for the 2010 winter Games and 2012 summer Olympics.
Last month, pay-television sports broadcaster SuperSport acquired exclusive pay-television rights for the 2014 and 2016 Olympics in South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa. The deal included non-exclusive online and mobile rights.
