International sports broadcaster Eurosport has agreed a deal with UK pay-television broadcaster Sky for rights to a selection of rugby league properties, which will be afforded coverage via pay-television channel Setanta Sports Asia.
The exclusive television and digital rights package is effective immediately and will run until the end of the 2019 season.
It includes the Super League, the top division of club rugby league in the UK, and the second-tier Championship, as well as knockout competition the Challenge Cup.
The World Club Challenge – an annual competition played between the top three clubs of the Australian National Rugby League and Super League – will also be shown by Setanta Sports Asia, but only matches played in the UK will be broadcast. Two magazine shows produced by Sky Sports, Full Time and Boots n’ all, are also included in the package.
Eurosport’s parent company Discovery Communications acquired rugby-focused Setanta Sports Asia in June as part of its effort to grow its sport business in the region.
