Shaw Communications tees up US PGA Tour rights

Canadian telecommunications company Shaw Communications has agreed a five-year broadcast rights deal with golf’s US PGA Tour which will run through 2018.

The agreement will see Shaw’s broadcast television network, Global, televise 26 weekends of PGA Tour broadcasts through 2018, along with weekend coverage of the Presidents Cup in 2015 and 2017.

Global will broadcast some of the leading tournaments on the PGA Tour schedule, including The Players Championship, the Memorial Tournament, the Canadian Open and the four FedExCup playoff events, concluding with the Tour Championship, the final event in the race for the FedExCup.

As part of its broadcast schedule, Global will also air a weekly 30-minute programme including highlights and player interviews from PGA Tour Canada events across the country. The programme will air on Sundays and lead into Global’s final round PGA Tour event broadcasts.

“These new agreements make Global the home of the most comprehensive golf coverage on Canadian television,” Paul Robertson, president of Shaw Media, said. “We’re thrilled to bring viewers this generation of golf’s best players competing for the top prizes and titles.”
