Sina to show live PGA Tour golf

Chinese internet operator Sina will simulcast live coverage of 12 golf tournaments per year as part of an extension to its partnership with the US PGA Tour.

The deal will run for three years, from 2013 to 2015.

Under the agreement, Sina will simulcast coverage of the tournaments via Sina.com and its affiliate online platforms and will also continue to produce and manage the official PGA Tour website in Mandarin for Chinese users.

The first tournament covered by the deal is the World Golf Championships Match Play Championship, which began today (Wednesday).

Luis Goicouria, the US PGA Tour’s vice-president of digital media business development and operations, said: “Growing and serving the golf audience in China is a huge priority for the Tour. Later this year, the Tour will update its mobile and tablet apps to include Mandarin content for Chinese users, and Sina will play a key role.”
