Sky and ProSiebenSat.1 eye MotoGP rights in Germany – report

German pay-television broadcaster Sky Deutschland and commercial broadcaster ProSiebenSat.1 are interested in acquiring rights to the MotoGP motorcycling series, according to the Speedweek.com website.

Sports broadcaster Sport1 has held the rights to MotoGP in Germany for the past six years, but its current agreement is due to expire at the end of 2014.

Speedweek said MotoGP’s commercial rights-holder Dorna Sports is seeking an annual rights fee of €3.5m ($4.8m) for its new German contract – a figure that Sport1 is struggling to match.

The website added that Dorna is expected to strike a deal with a pay-television and free-to-air broadcaster, potentially allowing Sky and ProSiebenSat.1 to share the rights.
