Sky NZ strikes late deal for Australia v New Zealand game

Pay-television broadcaster Sky New Zealand has acquired rights for the upcoming Australia v New Zealand rugby league international match on April 19, according to the Stuff.co.nz news website.

The New Zealand Rugby League, the sport’s national governing body in the country, struck the deal with Sky after also holding talks with free-to-air broadcaster Māori Television.

The report said that Sky would not use its own commentators, in a bid to reduce costs, and would take Australian commercial broadcaster Nine’s feed.

There had been fears that live coverage of the game would not be available in New Zealand after reports that talks between the governing body and Sky had broken down last weekend.
