Russian state broadcaster VGTRK has acquired domestic rights for the Sochi 2014 Winter Paralympic Games under a deal between the local organising committee for the event and Panorama, a production and rights company set up by Russia’s leading broadcasters.
Sochi 2014 said that VGTRK would serve as the official broadcaster of the Games, showing coverage of the competitions as well as support programming.
As part of the deal, which was supported by the International Paralympic Committee, business news channel RBC TV will show coverage of the build up to the event, including a 10-episode series of 10-minute ‘diaries’ following the torch relay. RBC will also produce and broadcast eight commercials to promote the ticketing programme for the Games.
Additionally Panorama will provide technical production support for the Games’ international television signal.
Panorama was established by Russian broadcasters Channel One, VGTRK, NTV Plus and the RIA Novosti news agency primarily to handle television activity around the 2014 Olympics.
