Indian sports and entertainment pay-television channel Sony Six has acquired domestic rights for the inaugural edition of the Golf Premier League, which will be held next month in Pune, India.
Six will provide live coverage across all three days of the new event, which is scheduled to run from February 8-10.
The league is the latest attempt to transplant the television-friendly format of cricket’s Twenty20 Indian Premier League into another sport. It will comprise eight franchises featuring Major champions such as Darren Clarke, Angel Cabrera and Michael Campbell alongside European, Asian and Indian golfers.
The inaugural league will feature two day-night rounds of strokeplay, followed by the third and final round of best-ball format. Each round will be played over 14 holes, instead of the regular 18.
