German commercial sports broadcaster Sport1 has agreed a one-year extension to its rights deal for the World Rally Championship covering the 2014 season of the motor racing series.
Sport1 said the deal covers its platforms in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The broadcaster will televise highlights from each of the WRC’s 13 events on a free-to-air basis, adding that it will provide “occasional” live coverage in Germany.
The 2014 WRC season gets underway with the Rallye Monte Carlo in Monaco on January 14. Germany will stage one round of the season from August 22-24.
