German sports broadcaster Sport1 has been fined by the Kommission für Zulassung und Aufsicht der Medienanstalten, a media regulator, for irregularities surrounding phone-in competitions on a sports themed quiz show that it broadcast.
The watchdog imposed a fine of €24,000 ($30,500) and also fined four Sport1 employees a total of €4,000.
The regulator found that Sport1 had “misled or deceived viewers in various episodes of the show,” which is called Sport Quiz, by failing to provide detailed information about phone-in competitions and providing misleading information about the difficulty of the quizzes. The watchdog added that there had also been irregularities in the process to select callers.
Sport1 said that it had not made a decision on whether to appeal the fine.
