German sports broadcaster Sport1 has agreed a two-season deal for rights to domestic club football competition the Women’s Bundesliga.
Sport1 has secured non-exclusive platform-neutral rights from the German Football Association (DFB) through to the end of the 2017-18 campaign, including up to 22 live games per season.
Games will be offered free-to-air through Sport1 and Sport1+, as well as live streamed at Sport1.de.
International sports broadcaster Eurosport had held domestic rights to the Women’s Bundesliga in a deal spanning the 2013-14 to 2015-16 seasons.
Hannelore Ratzeburg, DFB vice-president for women’s and girls’ football, said: “Especially in terms of access to digital media – an area in which Sport1 is superbly positioned – we see the collaboration as an opportunity to generate a wider audience.”
Sport1 will commence its live coverage with the Bundesliga’s 2016-17 opening round clash between reigning champion Bayern Munich and SC Freiburg on September 3.
