German sports broadcaster Sport1 has acquired platform-neutral rights for the International Champions Cup pre-season club football tournament.
The deal will run for two years, from 2016 to 2017.
Sport1 will broadcast live coverage of a minimum of 16 matches from each tournament on an exclusive basis in Germany and Austria, as well as non-exclusively in Switzerland.
The agreement also includes highlights on Sport1’s various television, online and mobile platforms.
Sport1 brokered the deal with Relevent Sports, the organiser of the International Champions Cup.
Organisers yesterday (Tuesday) announced the teams, venues and dates for this year’s tournament, which will feature 10 teams from Europe’s leading domestic leagues.
Competing teams include Barcelona and Real Madrid of the Spanish Liga; English Premier League clubs Chelsea, Liverpool and Leicester City; German Bundesliga champion Bayern Munich; Italian Serie A rivals AC Milan and Inter Milan; French Ligue 1 champion Paris Saint-Germain; and Celtic of the Scottish Premiership.
