German sports broadcaster Sportdigital has been granted a 10-year licence for its proposed US sports-dedicated television channel by the German Commission for Licensing and Supervision (ZAK).
A licence application was filed on May 21 to launch the channel, which is currently under the working name of Sportamerica HD.
ESPN’s US sport channel ESPN America is preparing to cease transmission in the country on July 31. In March, ESPN sent a letter to distributors saying that broadcasts of ESPN America, which is distributed on pay-television platforms across Europe, and the archive channel ESPN Classic, would end on this date.
