Samsung and SuperSport, the sub-Saharan Africa pay-television broadcaster, have partnered to create an application for the electronics company’s internet-connected television sets in South Africa.
The application will offer access to a scaled-down version of the SuperSport pay-television sports channel package, which is available via satellite in South Africa, on Samsung’s connected TV sets. The application will offer live streaming of events shown on SuperSport channels, news feeds and match statistics.
Justin Shaw, business leader for visual display at Samsung Electronics South Africa, said the development of locally relevant connected television applications would be “key to success” in the African market.
Connected television applications share the same concept as mobile phone applications, the main difference being they are designed for viewing and access via a television screen.
