Indian pay-television broadcaster Taj Television acquired rights to golf’s Asian Tour in a six-year deal, from 2013 to 2018.
Taj will show live coverage of 20 events per year from the tour on its soon-to-be-launched Ten Golf channel from next season.
The broadcaster has also secured rights to the European Tour in a six-year deal for the same period. The Times of India reported that the deals are worth a combined $12 million (€9 million) over the six years but TV Sports Markets understands that the true figure is significantly lower.
The deal for the European Tour is a renewal. Ten Sports replaces pan-regional sports broadcaster ESPN Star Sports as rights-holder for the Asian Tour.
Taj recently agreed a three-year deal with the Professional Golf Tour of India for rights to all tournaments sanctioned by the tour from 2012 to 2014.
