Indian subcontinent pay-television broadcaster Taj TV has acquired rights for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Taj TV, which will show extensive live coverage via its Ten Sports channel, secured free-to-air and pay-television rights as well as internet, mobile and radio rights.
Taj TV struck the deal with the event’s organising committee, Glasgow 2014, which said that the rights cover India as well as the wider subcontinent, including Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal and the Maldives.
Under the agreement, Taj TV will also work with national free-to-air broadcasters in countries across the subcontinent to enable them to broadcast highlights of the 11 days of competition from the multi-sport event.
“This acquisition is testament to our commitment to reach out to a wide audience base across the Indian subcontinent with the most interesting and compelling programming,” Ten Sports chief executive Atul Pande said.
