Telecommunications company Telecom Italia will show Uefa Champions League and Euro 2016 qualifying games through its TIMvision video-on-demand service after agreeing a sublicensing deal with the football competitions’ rights-holder in the country, pay-television broadcaster Sky Italia.
The deal follows similar agreements for the winter Olympic Games in Sochi, the 2014 Fifa World Cup and the Formula One motor-racing championship, strengthening the partnership between TIM and Sky.
The agreement takes in the 2014-15 season, with matches available for TIM customers, both on mobile broadband and ultrabroadband networks and Wi-Fi from the Telecom Italia fixed network.
The service will be available at a price of €5 ($6) per month which includes data traffic and does not have an activation fee.
The strategic partnership was first signed in November 2013 and will lead at the beginning of 2015 to the setting up of the first new generation IPTV in Italy to broadcast Sky’s entire television offer through Telecom Italia’s ultrabroadband networks.
