Turner is assessing a return as a rights-holder of American football league the NFL, according to the US media company’s executive vice-president of property marketing and corporate partnerships, Will Funk.
Turner’s TNT network split the rights to the NFL’s Sunday Night Football package with sports broadcaster ESPN from 1990 to 1997 and could be back in the market for rights when the current set of deals expire in 2022.
Funk told the Sporting News website: “We’re always looking at the NFL. Everyone looks at the NFL. You’d have to be crazy not to look at the NFL.”
However, he added: “It’s got to be the right fit for us, like everything else we’re doing.”
