The International Cycling Union (UCI) and British Cycling have agreed on new dates for next year’s Track World Championships in order to avoid a television clash with the Six Nations national team rugby union tournament.
London’s Lee Valley VeloPark was due to stage the event on February 24-28 – dates that fall within the Six Nation’s staging.
However, discussions between the UCI, the London organising committee and broadcasting stakeholders have resulted in the world championships being moved to March 2-6.
UCI president Brian Cookson said: “The UCI, organisers and TV broadcasters worked hand in hand to find the best possible dates for our track flagship event, taking into account the international sporting calendar.”
