Viacom18 lands World Cup rights, ‘hires Star’s Jayaraj’ as sports head

Viacom18 has stepped up its presence in the Indian sports media marketplace with the acquisition of broadcast rights to the 2022 Fifa World Cup national team football tournament, plus the hiring of senior executive Anil Jayaraj.

The Economic Times newspaper, citing highly placed sources at Viacom18, claimed Viacom18 has agreed to pay $55m (€46.7m) for the rights to Qatar 2022.
