Vodafone and Orange sell LaLiga bar and club rights to Mediapro

The Mediapro agency has acquired the broadcasting rights in public establishments of Spain’s top-tier LaLiga from telcos Vodafone and Orange in the 2018-19 season, adding to the same set of rights it will hold for three seasons from 2019-20 to 2021-22.

Spanish news website El País reported that Mediapro will pay about €120m ($137m) in the 2018-19 season. Vodafone and Orange originally acquired the rights in a three-season deal from 2015-16 to 2018-19.

Mediapro will now look to distribute the rights for the next four seasons.

In June, Mediapro acquired two domestic packages. One is for free-to-air and exclusive highlights of the competitions. The other comprises exclusive rights to all LaLiga and Segunda División matches for broadcasts solely in public establishments. It also secured non-exclusive pay-television rights to LaLiga playoff matches, as well as non-exclusive highlights of all LaLiga and Segunda División matches.
