Flemish-language public-service broadcaster VRT has acquired rights in Belgium for the Olympic Games in a sublicensing deal with media company Discovery Communications.
The deal will cover the upcoming 2018 winter Olympics in Pyeongchang and the 2020 summer Games in Tokyo.
VRT will be able to show daily highlights of the 2018 winter Olympics and more than 200 hours of live coverage of the 2020 Games. Discovery-owned international sports broadcaster Eurosport will continue to show full live coverage of both events in the Flanders region of Belgium, according to VRT.
VRT will also have extensive clip rights, which will be exploited via the broadcaster’s Sportza website and mobile app.
Discovery Communications has rights to the Olympics across most European territories from 2018 to 2024.
