O2 Sport, a subscription sports channel operated by telecommunications company O2 in the Czech Republic, has acquired rights for the Women’s Tennis Association Tour.
The rights deal will run for three years, from 2017 through to the end of 2019.
O2 Sport will broadcast live coverage of all WTA tournaments including the WTA Finals end-of-season event in Singapore. Subscribers can select the matches they wish to view through the channel’s ‘multi-dimension’ feature.
The deal also covers the O2 TV digital service, which is operated in the Czech Republic by O2.
O2 TV will stream coverage of 54 WTA tournaments, including the Prague Open, which is staged in the Czech capital every year. The package also includes the WTA magazine programme.
The deal amounts to the biggest ever tennis package to be broadcast in the Czech Republic, which has seven players among the women’s top 100 including Karolína Plíšková, Lucie Šafářová and Petra Kvitová (pictured), who rank in the top 20.
