Athletics: The Shanghai Media Group acquired the rights in China for the World Athletic Series in a four-year deal from 2010 to 2013. SMG won what the International Association of Athletics Federations described as a "competitive tender process". The IAAF also said that SMG’s offer had not only "a strong financial component" but also contained "very strong broadcast guarantees", including a minimum three hours a day from the 2011 and 2013 World Championships. The present contract, from 2007 to 2009, is with state broadcaster CCTV.
