Pay-television broadcaster Al Jazeera is in advanced discussions to acquire World Series of Boxing media rights for its two new channels in France, BeIN Sport 1 and BeIN Sport 2, according to l’Equipe.
The newspaper said that BeIN Sport vice-president Charles Biétry previously brokered the deal for pay-television channel l’Equipe TV to show the 2011-12 season of the series.
The report added that the presence of a Paris franchise in the series had stoked interest in the boxing competition, which takes place in various destinations around the world.
BeIN Sport 1 will launch this Friday (June 1), with world championship boxing scheduled for four hours between Saturday night and Sunday morning.
Sister channel BeIN Sport 2 will launch on July 28.
