BT seeks agency to push pay-television platform

UK telecommunications company BT has launched a tender process for a communications and marketing agency to promote its pay-television platform BT Vision, which has been revamped by recent sports rights acquisitions.

The PR Week website said that the contract would be worth up to £3 million (€3.7 million/$4.8 million) and has attracted interest from five agencies.

BT is planning to launch at least two dedicated sports channels next year, with a third channel under consideration that would carry content such as on-demand and pay-per-view programmes.

In other news, BT has secured two Electronic Programme Guide slots on pay-television operator BSkyB’s satellite platform ahead of the launch of its sports channels. The Broadcast Now website said that the channels have been initially tagged as Sailing 1 and Sailing 2, but would be rebranded at a later date.

A BT spokesman said: “For test purposes they [the channels] will be showing sailing, treasure diving and kayaking content.”
