German telco Deutsche Telekom has promoted Michael Schuld to the role of head of its television business unit.
Schuld (pictured) was previously head of communications and marketing sales, but from November 1 will be responsible for all matters relating to OTT platform MagentaTV and the general television business of Deutsche Telekom.
He succeeds Wolfgang Elsäßer, who departed the company earlier this year to join Swiss telco Swisscom.
In his new role, Schuld will report directly to Michael Hagspihl, managing director for private customers at Deutsche Telekom. Hagspihl said: “In Michael Schuld we have found a seasoned manager with a lot of experience and know-how in the field of entertainment. I am convinced that he will strongly advance our TV business.”
Deutsche Telekom holds a significant sports rights portfolio in Germany. In December, the telco extended a rights deal for the DEL, the country’s national ice hockey league.
