US media group Discovery has expanded its coverage of the Swedish Futsalligan, the top-tier futsal championship in the country, in the 2019-20 season.
Discovery will show 25 matches from the Futsalligan in the upcoming season on its Eurosport channels, up from the ten it broadcast in the 2018-19 season following good ratings for the league.
The league starts on November 3 with the match between Örebro FC and Hammarby IF.
The league’s rights are sold by the Swedish Football Association. Before the beginning of the 2018-19 season it approved the restructuring of the futsal league system which was proposed by the Futsalligan and the Svensk Elitfotboll (SEF). The SEF runs the top two leagues in Swedish football, the Allsvenskan and the Superettan.
The pair joined forces in order to develop the futsal league with the Futsalligan becoming a part of the SEF but remaining as an independent division.
Discovery will broadcast the Allsvenskan and Superettan from 2020, having acquired the rights from the SEF in 2017.
