Discovery snaps up minority stake in Rugby Pass

International media and entertainment company Discovery Communications has acquired a minority stake in Rugby Pass, an online sports platform available in 23 Asian countries.

Coliseum Sports Media launched the platform in February.

Under the deal, selected content from Discovery-owned pay-television broadcaster Setanta Sports Asia will now be available to all Rugby Pass subscribers.

The service offers live coverage of about 1,000 games per year in markets such as China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam.

CSM chief executive Tim Martin said that the deal would allow Rugby Pass to expand its sports content and invest in further growth.
