Danish public-service broadcasters DR and TV2 have acquired rights for the 2014 winter Olympic Games and the 2016 summer Olympics.
The broadcasters’ renewals include rights for free-to-air television, pay-television, internet and mobile platforms.
The deal for the 2014 Games in the Russian city of Sochi and the 2016 Olympics in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro was brokered on behalf of the International Olympic Committee by the Sportfive agency, which is selling Olympic Games rights for the 2014 to 2016 cycle in 40 European territories.
Financial details were not disclosed.
“I am glad that the national public-service broadcasters – DR and TV2 – will continue to show the Olympic Games in Denmark,” DR’s head of sport, Tine Bendix, said. “In light of the massive interest for London 2012 from Danish viewers it is important that this great celebration of sport is made available to all Danes.”
TV2 sports director Frederik Lauesen added: “The London Olympics were a huge success, showing that the Danes love watching the Olympics. This is an important deal for TV2 and, bearing in mind the interest demonstrated by Danish fans during the Games this summer, an important obligation for us as public-service providers.”
