International sports broadcaster Eleven Sports has acquired rights in Portugal to football’s Uefa Youth League.
Eleven will hold live and exclusive rights in Portugal to the club tournament, which is contested by the leading youth teams in Europe, from 2018-19 to 2020-21.
Eleven confirmed Portugal as its tenth market back in May with the acquisition of rights to the Uefa Champions League and Spanish LaLiga for the same three-season period. It has since added rights to France’s Ligue 1, as well as the top divisions in Germany, Belgium and Scotland.
On Eleven’s latest rights deal, Pedro Pinto, a non-executive director of the broadcaster’s Portuguese division, said: “I know from my time at Uefa how valuable this property is for European football’s governing body and how much it is growing exponentially across Europe. For Eleven to have secured the Uefa Youth League rights in Portugal is particularly significant considering how successful Portuguese teams have been in it.”
