International sports broadcaster Eurosport has today (Monday) agreed a three-season extension to its long-running rights agreement with the Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK) motorcycling series.
Eurosport will continue to show the series and its support categories across Europe for the 2017, 2018 and 2019 seasons and will remain the exclusive rights-holder in the UK.
A production team will have a presence at all races to enhance Eurosport’s UK coverage, with additional features such as live interviews and real-time action set to be introduced.
Under the new agreement, each WorldSBK race will be broadcast live in high-definition from next year.
Eurosport chief executive Peter Hutton said: “We see excellent ratings and viewing figures for the championship, especially in the UK where fans enjoy exclusive and bespoke coverage from a dedicated Eurosport production team on the ground, so we are happy to maintain that exclusivity in the new agreement.”
Eurosport has partnered with the series, which begins its 2016 season at the Phillip Island Circuit in Australia on February 26, for close to two decades.
