Fox Sports and AOL strike video content deal

US pay-television broadcaster Fox Sports has agreed a multi-year video content deal with media company AOL, according to the AdWeek.com news website.

The deal will include video highlights of various sports events shown by Fox Sports.

Fox Sports has rights to a number of major sports properties such as the North American NFL American football league as well as Major League Baseball.

The agreement will also cover Fox Sports digital properties such as @TheBuzzer and Garbage Time.

In addition, the deal includes the potential for co-produced content for major sporting events such as the Olympic Games and this year’s Fifa Women’s World Cup national team football tournament.

Commenting on the deal, Fox Sports Digital vice-president of business development Ben Maggin said the company liked the monetisation options on its platform as well as AOL’s assurance that the broadcaster would retain control of advertising deals.

“We don't want to be on all platforms,” Maggin said. “We do believe in the power of off-network. It's a key way to reach consumers on a whole bunch of different areas of content and allow advertisers to reach whoever consumes that content hyper-aggressively.”
