France Televisions and Canal Plus strike Olympic Games deal

French public-service broadcaster France Télévisions has agreed a deal to sublicense rights to the 2016 and 2020 summer Olympic Games to pay-television broadcaster Canal Plus.

The deal will allow for action from next year’s Games in Rio de Janeiro and the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo to be broadcast on the Canal Plus and Canal Plus Sport channels in France, along with the services associated with the two platforms.

France Télévisions had struck a sublicensing deal with Canal Plus’s rival pay-television broadcaster beIN Media Group for the 2012 summer Games in London.

In July 2011 France Télévisions signed a four-Games deal with the International Olympic Committee, covering the rights to the 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2020 events.

France Télévisions will continue to provide all action from Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 on a free-to-air basis across its various television channels and digital media services.
