French digital-terrestrial television channel L’Équipe 21 has reached an agreement with pan-regional broadcaster Eurosport to acquire rights in the country to the International Motorcycling Federation’s Endurance World Championship.
The two-season deal will cover the 2016 and 2017 campaigns. The agreement began with the season-opening 24 Heures Motos event in Le Mans, France at the weekend.
L’Équipe 21 showed a 52-minute highlights programme of the event and will show live coverage of every other race for the duration of the season, beginning with the Portimão 12 Hours event in Portugal on June 11.
“Last season, as promoter of the FIM EWC, Eurosport Events offered comprehensive coverage of the championship on Eurosport France,” François Ribeiro, head of Eurosport Events, promoter of the championship, said. “This deal with L’Equipe 21 will ensure it gets an even wider audience, and round off Eurosport’s media coverage setup.”
